COUNTY PACEMAN FINCH HELPS ENGLAND REACH SEMI-FINALS
Adam Finch picked up two wickets on his ICC Under-19 World Cup debut and helped England seal a quarter-final clash with Australia on Monday (January 22).
The Worcestershire paceman came into a revamped line-up against Canada which saw several players rested included his County team-mate Dillon Pennington.
Academy product Finch made the most of his opportunity with the new ball as England bowled out Canada for 101 in Queenstown to record a crushing 282 run win. He sent back Akash Gill and Kevin Singh in the space of four balls in the seventh over to reduce Canada to 20-4.
Finch, who made his Under-19s bow against India last summer, finished with the excellent figures of 5-2-10-2 – with 25 dot balls.
England ended their group programme with a 100 per cent record with Pennington helping them chalk up wins over Namibia and Bangladesh. Now he and Finch will be looking to help England emulate – and improve upon – their semi-final appearance in 2014 when Joe Clarke and Ed Barnard were part of the side. Tom Banton (120) and Will Jacks (102) hit centuries as England amassed 383-7 after being put into bat – their highest World Cup score. More Here...
