HIMLEY CROWNED CANTERBURY COUNTY CUP CHAMPIONS
Himley CC beat Old Elizabethans CC in dominant fashion to win the Canterbury County Cup at New Road last Sunday. The 34 run victory came at the back of a strong all-round performance by Jamie Turner, who picked up 3-11 and smashed 34 runs in 12 balls which included a last ball six.
The Finals Day, which saw a decent crowd turn up to support their teams, saw Graham Blomfield as the chief guest with the FA Cup style tournament being his brainchild. Blomfield’s vision was to provide an opportunity for players at Worcestershire clubs to come and parade their skills at New Road. This year’s competition saw 15 clubs compete for the honours.
Himley, strong favourites heading into the clash, opted to bat after winning the toss and posted a reasonable 144-5 in 20 overs. Captain Greg Wright top scored with 38 and Bilal Hussain chipped in with a fine 26 to set the platform for Turner’s pyro late on. OE’s captain Hemaka Pathiranage (2-22) grabbed two wickets after the power play to halt Himley’s progress while Elliot Bartlett and Daniel Colburn also kept a lid on the scoring picking up one wicket each.
A target of 145 seemed gettable but Turner and Elliot Hopkin bowled with pace upfront which mirrored their determination to come out on the right end this time around having lost the final two years ago. OE’s never found a second gear, attributed to a strong bowling effort by Himley. Stuart Wedge returned 3-19 and Chad Brandrick took 25-2 in the middle phase. More Here

HIMLEY LEAD THE WAY UNDER FLOODLIGHTS
Himley enhance their reputation as one of the leading lights on the club cricket scene, breaking new ground by hosting the first ever Birmingham League clash under floodlights. The second XI entertained Halesowen in a Premier Division 2 game on Saturday, August 26 in which Himley won after Halesowen won the toss and batted first, scoring 239 for 6, with Himley 240 for 6 in reply.
First team skipper Greg Wright, who is one of the leading lights behind the club’s Black Country T20 spectacular that is now entering its eighth year, is delighted to see Himley leading the way.
“As a club we are proud to have staged the game and pleased to be pushing the boundaries for club cricket,” said Wright.
“There have been a lot of problems with participation levels in cricket in recent years and it’s good to look at different ways to generate interest and hopefully attract people back to the sport.
“We put the idea to the Birmingham League and they were prepared to go with it. All credit to the league because they are open to new ideas and willing to consider them.
“We are a long way off playing first team games under lights but that may be something for the future.

ADAM FINCH CALLED UP FOR ENGLAND U19'S
Worcestershire's & Himley pace man Adam Finch has been selected by England under 19's for the series against India.
Worcestershire Academy coach Elliot Wilson said "Adam has been selected for the ECB Invitational XI against India as part of their preparation for the Test Series and also for the five ODIs where he will compete with 14 to 15 other players.
"He has made some fantastic strides. We had a group of guys this winter who were able to get down to Malvern College three or four times a week and from the start of the winter we could see the strides he was going to make.
"He has had a rapid progression over the last two years.
"We were really pleased with his progress and he is of the right age profile for this squad. England are looking to work with a group leading up to the Under 19 World Cup.
"If we mapped this journey out some people would be amazed at the way things have moved forward for him so I have to constantly remind ourselves of how raw this guy still is.
"He is exciting, bright, intelligent and working the game out but is still incredibly raw and in terms of this level of cricket it will be very new for him."
Proud Himley Chairman Gordon Lewis says " As chairman of the club and having coached/managed Finchy since he was a nipper it is with great pride that I congratulate him on behalf of the club. More..

Wright takes the helm and is backing local talent to shine.
Greg Wright is delighted to return as Himley Cricket Club Captain, following the departure of Ben Smith.
Says Wright "I'm not sure I saw myself back in charge a few months back, but things change so quickly in sport. It's a great shame to lose Ben - we all wish him well and he did a great job putting a lot of things in place that we now need to build on.
The club and players have been very supportive ahead of the season. Nipun (Sri Lankan 1st Class overseas player) is a young and talented prospect and will fit nicely into what will be an exciting team of local and majority Junior Section products, which I'm really looking forward to leading.
We'll have good and bad days, as every young side has, but the talent is here to compete at the top end of the table.".
